About me

My style is interactive, respectful, and goal oriented. Many have reported that I am warm, supportive, and have a sense of humor, which makes me “very easy to talk to.” I primarily focus on the present. I will help you learn what unproductive habits (behavior and thinking) that keep you stuck. My years of experience help me quickly assess the scope and depth of your concerns, know where to begin, effectively work with you, and enable you to move forward with your life.

While I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, I am also very experienced in treating depression, couples issues, ADHD, and alcohol and drug abuse. I don't work with eating disorders or compulsive gamblers.

I graduated from Indiana State University with a PhD in Counseling Psychology in 1986. I became licensed in 1988. Since then, I have earned certifications in cognitive therapy and EMDR (a specialized treatment that is especially effective with trauma. For more information, go to www.emdr.org). I became a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) in 1994.

In addition to private practice, I have also worked with diverse problems in a variety of settings, including community mental health centers, a Cleveland Clinic Family Health Center, a managed care mental health program, schools, a college counseling center, residential settings for the mentally handicapped, and the Veteran's Administration. Working with mentally handicapped individuals has deepened my beliefs that all, regardless of functioning, have the ability to grow and that all are deserving respect.

When not working, I enjoy my family, as well as running, surfing the net, and trying to play jazz on my guitars.
